Photomultiplier Connector Sums Pixel Output

SensL has launched the SPMPlus, a large-area version of the company's silicon photomultiplier detectors. A viable solid-state alternative to large-area analog photomultiplier tubs, the device's 1.3x1.3cm total active area is achieved with a transparent glass substrate and connector design that allows the array of individual silicon photomultiplier pixel signals to be summed as a single output. The detector features include a <-1mm working distance between the source and the detector surface, 30-v bias voltage operation, magnetic insensitivity and high tolerance to ambient light. The company's biasing circuitry ensures onset times<10 ns and recovery time < 60 ns. The device achieves 106 gain and a gain stability comparable to that of traditional photomultiplier tubes. Applications include nuclear medicine, environmental monitoring, fluorescence spectrometry and imaging, and microarray imaging.

Toptica CW THz Generation Laser

CW terahertz radiation is obtained by means of difference frequency mixing on a semiconductor antenna ("photomixer"). Two laser beams of slightly different wavelengths are superimposed on the photomixer, which generates a terahertz wave at the beat frequency of the two lasers. TOPTICA’s distributed feedback (DFB) diode lasers offer high output power and are thus ideally suited to efficient difference frequency mixing. A further benefit is the large mode-hop-free tuning range of the DFB lasers. The difference frequency of two DL DFB or dfTune lasers can be tuned from 0 to 2 THz, which covers the absorption signatures of a broad range of relevant substances including explosives.
TOPTICA offers three product packages to help customers select the most suitable components for their CW-terahertz experiment: a basic laser package, a high power package, and a precision frequency control package for high-resolution terahertz spectroscopy.

Laser Shed White Light on Microscopy

Toptica Photonics AG has brought out three white-light lasers for microscopy and biophotonics applications, including multiphoton excitation and time – resolved photon counting. The FemtoFiber lasers also have applications in frequency measurement and in femtosecond and terahertz spectroscopy.

The infrared supercontinuum laser, the FFS.SYS-CONT, outputs light over the wavelength range of 1050 to 2100 nm, with a typical total power of 150 mW. It has a pulse length<100 fs between1700 and 2100 nm, with an average power in that range of 5 to 40 mW. The repetition rate is factory-set between 80 and 110 MHz. The beam divergence is wavelength-dependent but below 1 mrad, and the beam shape is TEM00.

The lasers are designed for flexibility in scientific applications, and the addition of the FFS-COMP compression module produces shorter pulses of <40 fs for wavelengths less than 1400 nm. By frequency doubling the infrared supercontinuum, the company has developed a narrowband, widely tunable version in the visible region that provides high power per nanometer and good power stability. With a bandwidth of 1 nm and a tuning range from 485 to 700 nm, it produces power between 1 and 10 mW.

The laser head dimensions are 318x236x122 mm, and the add-on module measures 258x227x122mm. The laser has a USB interface and takes a supply voltage of 90 to 260 VAC, from 47 to 63 Hz.

Princeton instruments has introduced the Quad-RO: 4320, a 4-megapixel fibre optically coupled camera or indirect x-ray imaging applications. The maintenance-free thermoelectrically cooled camera is housed in a compact package and offers better than ±0.1 ◦c temperature precision and a FireWire interface. It delivers>70% quantum efficiency at 560 nm and fast readout of 0.72fps. it has a front – illuminated 2084 x 2084-format sensor with 24µm pixels and 1 50X50-mm image area. Acton LS 785 High Throughput Lens Spectrograph from PI/Acton

From conception the Acton LS 785 design was specifically optimized for use in the NIR. The unique f/2 lenses, designed in-house, feature proprietary coatings developed by Acton Research Coatings group. Each surface of the five element lenses has a better than 99% antireflection coating. The high aperture and transmission provides more than twice the throughput of the closest competitive product. The lenses were designed for best MTF in the region between 750nm and 1000nm. The result is unmatched image quality and the lowest aberrations possible over its 27 mm x 8 mm focal plane. BM Series Brushless Rotary Motors from Aerotech

Ultra fast photoreceivers with FEMTO´s GHz Technology

By combining state of the art photodiodes with the proven and outstanding FEMTO GHz amplifier technology we designed a new family of photoreceivers with a remarkable performance. The HSA-X-S offers an upper bandwidth limit of 2 GHz. Two models with either a fast Si or InGaAs photodiode cover a spectral range from 320 to 1000 nm and 850 to 1700 nm, respectively. Flat-top intensity distribution can be produced by using microlens arrays arranged in a honeycomb condenser. LED measurements using Avantes AvaSpec- 2048 spectrometer

The simplest and quickest way to measure the total luminous flux from a LED is to use an integrating sphere, coupled to an Avantes spectrometer. The interior surface of the integrating sphere is perfectly diffusing and has spatially uniform reflectance. The radiant exchange from diffuse surface to diffuse surface integrates the light, resulting in equal radiance at any point on the sphere wall. The system can be calibrated with a halogen light source AvaLight-HAL-CAL-ISP. With AvaSoft-IRRAD spectrometer software it is possible to calculate the parameters from the measured spectral distribution and to perform an absolute irradiance measurement. Also the intensity of the measured light can be calculated, displayed and saved as spectral irradiance in µWatt/cm2/nm.

Duke Technical note: Detection of Antibody to HCV and NS3 by using the Microsphere Immunoassay.

Using two dye levels of Duke Scientific’s Cyto-PlexTM Avidin Microspheres (L5 and L10), two outside researchers developed a duplex-type assay for the detection of antibodies to the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Two HCV proteins were produced, then biotinylated according to the protocol presented. The biotinylated antigens were captured onto avidin-coupled beads and subsequently analyzed by incubating the microsphere-bound antigens with patient samples. The microspheres were then analyzed using flow cytometry.

Scanning force microscopy is an extremely high resolution method for topography measurements. The atomic force microscope (AFM) consists of a small tip fixed to a very fine cantilever (approx. 150 µm long and 2 µm thick). The tip is positioned above the surface. Voice transmission over packet networks continue to present challenging quality of service issues - including echo, delay, voice clipping, and impairments due to lost or jittered packets. These problems are exacerbated even further during high loads or high degree of voice compression. Adequate tools for creating stress conditions and simultaneously characterizing and measuring impairments are not readily available. The Foveon FO18-50-F19 is a 1/1.8-inch CMOS direct image sensor that incorporates breakthrough Foveon X3 technology. Foveon X3 direct image sensors capture full-measured color images through a unique stacked pixel sensor design. By capturing full-measured color images, the need for color interpolation and artifact-reducing blur filters is eliminated. High Speed Generators from Picosecond Pulse Labs (PSPL)

Picosecond designs and manufactures the world's leading Step, Pulse, and Impulse Generators:

  • Model 4016 provides <5 ps falltime and our 10,000 series of pulse generators offer many unique capabilities.
  • Model 10,300B produces 50V pulses, 300 ps risetime, and adjustable duration from <1ns to 100ns. Our Model 10,050A produces 10V pulses with 45ps risetime and adjustable duration from 100ps to 10ns.
  • Models 10,060A and 10,070A are enhanced versions of the 10,050A with additional capabilities. All pulse parameters, except rise/falltime, are fully programmable via the GPIB (IEEE-488) interface.

Xeva-USB 2D Infrared imaging camera from XenICs - A new member of the Lahat family

XenICs is a worldwide manufacturer of infrared detectors for infrared spectroscopy, non-contact temperature measurement, smart sensors and thermal imaging systems. XenICs XEVA-USB digital camera combines a thermo-electrically cooled InGaAs detector head and the control and communication electronics. This unit is available for InGaAs detector arrays operating in the wavelength range from 0.9 up to 1.7 µm. The XEVA-USB digital camera is operated from one single 12V - 5A power supply (included in the configuration) and includes all voltage regulating circuits, a temperature stabilization circuit for the cooling of the detector and the signal output analog to digital conversion. The camera head interfaces to a PC via a standard USB 2.0 bus; there is no need for additional frame grabber cards.

Seminar on particle counting and monitoring in hydraulic fluids

Lahat held a successful seminar on hydraulic fluid particle counting and monitoring, on March 2nd at the Sharon Hotel. Mr. Matt Harle, Hydraulics Monitoring Manager from HachUltra Analytics UK, attended the training. Hydraulic products covered at the seminar included the industry work-horse 8011 for general measurements in laboratories, the 8012 for viscous dark and very contaminated oils without dilution, the PC4000 for portability in the field, with the main focus on the PM4000 low-cost online hydraulic particle monitor.
